PUSHING OWERRI ISSUES AT THE SENATE
Agenda of Action:
- As your Senator, I will be your number one PR person in Abuja and for this; I will deploy my media expertise, good will and contacts. I will consult regularly the stakeholders in the Zone, particularly the Elders group for input and advice.
- Federal Presence: There will be no let up on the pressure for the Federal Government to site some job-generating projects to Imo which will mitigate the huge unemployment and poverty situation.
- Erosion: I will draw attention of the world, particularly drawing the attention of NEMA and other disaster control Agencies including the Federal Ministry of Environment and Special Duties to the massive erosion menace in the State.
- Unemployment: Work with the Governor of Imo State to seek ways of attracting job generating opportunities for the people.
- Bad Roads: Keep public focus on the condition of federal roads in the Zone, especially Owerri-Umuahia, Owerri-Aba, Owerri, Onitsha roads; work for their dualization and lobby for federal take over of Owerri-Okigwe Road.
- Housing: Campaign for the siting of Federal Housing Estates should be cited in the Zone.
- Aviation: To make Imo Airport a full fledged international cargo airport with adequate facilities including night landing equipment is an imperative that all Imo Representatives must work for. This will be a major assignment.
- Establishing a credit guarantee scheme for local farmers and small businesses and encourage local agencies like NAPEP, SMEDAN and international stakeholders to provide Imolites micro-credit facilities.
- Women’s economic empowerment will be a major area of action since this will have direct impact on the families.
- Work with my Governor, Ministers from the State and other Legislators to ensure that the State gets what ought to come to it from the Federal Government.
- Canvass for the appointment of more indigenes of the Zone to State and Federal positions.
- Work to ensure that our people are no longer marginalized in the State and the federation.
- Ensure that Federal allocations for projects sited in the Zone are properly utilized for the intended purposes.
- Follow-up on major uncompleted Federal projects in the Parastatals and Ministries.
- Lobby for the inclusion of the Zone in the Siting of modern federal water schemes. This will reduce the current water shortage.
- Work for the siting of an international standard Health facility in the State.
- Education: I will advocate the re-thrust of education to areas where the jobs are. I will work for federal take over of Alvan Ikoku College of Education and its transformation into a University.
- Continually keep our people informed of opportunities opening up on the national and international levels and encourage their participation.
