Who is Chris Anyanwu?
CHRISTIANA NGOZI ANYANWU (MFR) (nee Ukah) was born 55 years ago in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area and is married to Dr. Casmir Anyanwu of Enyiogugu, Aboh Mbaise. The marriage is blessed with 2 lovely children.

CHRIS attended Owerri Girls Secondary School, University of Missouri at Columbia, and Florida State University, USA. She holds a Bachelors Degree in journalism and Masters Degree in Mass Communication.

CHRIS’s activities have impacted positively in the lives of people, particularly, Imo citizens. Through hard work, dedication and entrepreneurship, she has contributed greatly to the growth and development of both Imo and Nigeria in various ways including offering job opportunities to several sons and daughters of Owerri Zone.

A mother, devout Christian, author, broadcaster, administrator, philanthropist and humane woman, Chris is the founder and Chief Executive of Spectrum Broadcasting Company Nigeria Limited, a young vibrant organization engaged in television programmes production and radio broadcasting. She established TSM TV, which has trained many professionals majority of whom are from Imo State. Her radio station, HOT 98.3 FM Abuja, is the hottest Radio Station in the FCT with the most far-reaching coverage spanning 8 States. HOT FM has also been licensed to set up a new station in Owerri – the first private radio in Imo State, expected to give employment to a large number of Imo citizens.

CHRIS is better known as that skilled, innocent face that adorned the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) screen some years ago. She conceptualized, produced and anchored one of the most popular news programmes on NTA - “NEWSLINE”. And for several years, she traversed the universe, covering activities of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) as a petroleum correspondent. She also covered various other national and international assignments.

CHRIS was the Imo State Commissioner between 1987 and 1989 for Information, Youth, Sports, Culture and Social Welfare. During her tenure, Imo never had it so good.

In 1995, she was arrested by the oppressive military government of General Sani Abacha over some frame-up charges. Chris was then the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Sunday Magazine (TSM), a weekly news magazine, based in Lagos. Her strong stance on the side of freedom of expression, human rights, justice and respect for the Rule of Law, earned her a jail term alongside current President Olusegun Obasanjo and others. She has since been cleared and honoured by the Federal Government.

CHRIS has published 6 books; of particular note is The Days of Terror – a political novel on Nigeria’s historic encounter with military dictatorship, and Power Sharing in Nigeria – a book highlighting the imbalance in power equation in Nigeria, and The LAW MAKERS, the official book of Record for the National Assembly.

CHRIS has won many awards and commendations at home and abroad in recognition of her outstanding performances and contributions to development including the 1998 UNESCO Press Freedom Award. In 2004, she was conferred with the prestigious national award of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Her aspiration for the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Owerri Zone is a call to greater service to her fatherland, and an opportunity to contribute in changing the status quo, improve the quality of lives of her people, and bring development to the State.
